Remember the days when you had very little time for yourself? You had to feed the kids, take care of your husband, clean the house, go to work, get off work, pick up the kids, do homework, feed the family, do laundry, and pass out. You may make it to the gym once or twice a week while the kids are at some practice. Now that the kids are grown and out of the house and you are retired or close to retirement, your routine has changed. Now you skip breakfast and your husband if you know what I mean. Now you eat around noon or two in the afternoon, and the house gets cleaned when you get to it. If you are still working, you go to work early to chit-chat, or you might go in late because you no longer care about getting a promotion cause your days on the job are numbered. You feel more relaxed and less pressured to be a model employee. If you are retired, you might go to the GYM. You may exercise in your mind, walking around the block a few times by pulling that yoga block out from underneath your bed. The bottom line is now you have time for yourself. It's time to care for yourself like you've cared for everyone else. It's time to refresh, regroup and make fun plans.
Call some friends, meet for breakfast or lunch once a week, and take that Zumba class you dreamt about taking but couldn't because of the kids. Just go to the library, not like you used to because one of the kids had a project. Just go! Not only are there books there, but there are also new people to meet. Get a new hobby, dress up make yourself feel pretty. Make that appointment for your mammogram and that colonoscopy. While that doesn't sound like fun, make it fun. After each medical experience, take yourself shopping. Buy yourself a mammogram gift to compensate for being smashed or a colonoscopy gift for being emptied. Get your calendar out, and plan a vacation. It's time for you!
