To Dress or Not to Dress

Updated: Jun 27, 2024

As women age, some lose their desire to dress fashionably. Some opt for simple comfort, while others may choose more eccentric styles. Some women shift towards clothing that is easier to put on and remove. Some individuals may inadvertently mix up their colors, perhaps due to an evolving sense of color perception. whether you prefer loose, comfortable, or unconventional clothing, there's never a reason to look frumpy or unkempt. Personally, I enjoy dressing up, particularly in elegant evening wear like gowns, feathered jackets, and anything that sparkles or is of leopard print.

Recently, I attended a tea party where the suggested attire was tulle skirts and high-top sneakers. Although my outfit was cute, somewhat youthful, and modern, I still incorporated a few traditional tea party elements such as fingerless gloves and a fascinator. I wore leopard print high-tops sneakers, which were bedazzled with rhinestones and have shiny laces. My fascinator had a matching leopard design as well. Some years ago, I fell in love with leopard print, that print along with my signature hoop earrings has been a look that I’ve enjoyed. Not only did I enjoy my tea party look, I had lots of fun!

Older women may sometimes dress in an unorthodox manner and their fashion choices may be consider "crazy" They’re not “crazy” they just have a healthy sense of self- awareness because with age comes increased confidence and a greater sense of freedom to express oneself. During my career, I had to adhere to a very conservative dress code, so in my social outings, I tended to gravitate towards the clothing styles I

truly loved. As a woman of a certain age, I feel even more empowered to experiment with new styles, such as colorful tulle skirts or vibrant jewelry and handbags. I’ve often said that I would wear an evening gown and cowboy boots to the supermarket.

As one matures, there's often a desire to explore unique styles to emphasize individuality. I believe that older women should focus on selecting colors, fabrics, and styles that make them feel good and authentically represent who they are. Some fashion experts suggest that older women should steer clear of certain fashion choices, such as bold prints or clashing patterns, which can be distracting and potentially age

them. Recommending instead that they should include balance timeless pieces with current trends, blending textures, and accessorizing with sophisticated details. I feel that you should wear what’s right for you.

In my youth, I enjoyed dressing in a sexy manner, fully embracing a Hollywood-inspired style or the latest urban fashion. As a mature lady I still dress stylish I guess you could say I’m a chic dresser. My fashion selections reflect my personality someone who loves to have fun and enjoys life on purpose. I dress like a party even when there is no party….fun is the order of the day!

Ladies, age should never restrict your fashion choices or personal style. Embrace fashion with joy; you need not adhere to the trends of the era you grew up in but can instead adapt to current styles with flair and confidence. Simply have fun with fashion and enjoy your life.

Until next time.. Lady Bella
