Working the Word: A Spiritual Shampoo and Conditioning Guide
Have you ever noticed how shampoo bottles always instruct you to “work it in”? You can’t just apply shampoo and expect miracles; you need to massage it, scrub it, and let it reach your scalp. Similarly, conditioner needs to be worked through from root to tip to truly nourish your hair.
In the same way, many of us treat the Word of God like a quick Sunday spritz—just enough to feel spiritual but not enough to bring real transformation. Just like hair products won’t work unless you work them in, the Word won’t grow or transform you unless you actively integrate it into your daily life.
James 1:22 reminds us: “Be doers of the Word, not hearers only.” It’s about letting the Word seep into every part of you—just like you let shampoo and conditioner do their magic.
Point 1: The Word Only Works When You Work It In
Joshua 1:8 tells us to meditate on the Word day and night. This means truly working it into your mind and heart, letting it become part of you. Just like you can’t get clean with one rinse, a “drive-through devotional” won’t sustain you. Instead, repeat and reflect on Scripture, let it guide your decisions, and keep it close.
Point 2: Work the Word into Every Area of Your Life
Proverbs 3:5-6 encourages us to acknowledge God in all our ways. This means not just on Sundays, but every day, in every part of life—from finances to relationships. It’s about making the Word a part of your daily routine.
Point 3: The Word Transforms When It Dwells in You
Colossians 3:16 invites the Word to dwell richly within us. It’s not just a visitor; it’s about letting it take residence and transform our character. When the Word dwells in us, it changes how we respond, think, and live.
Conclusion: Lather, Rinse, Repeat
Just like healthy hair needs a consistent routine, a vibrant spiritual life requires regular engagement with the Word. Read it, apply it, and repeat it. When you work the Word, it will work on you—transforming, strengthening, and renewing your life.
Final Thought:
Psalm 119:11 says, “I have hidden Your word in my heart.” It’s about deeply embedding the Word so that it shapes every part of you. So let’s lather it up, live it, believe it, and let it shine through us.
Take care Divas' and remember we're in this together....working it benefits us all!!
